Fried Rice (Nasi Goreng)

Ingredients

1) My preferred combination of vegetables is cabbage, onion, red bell pepper, and garlic, but almost any mixture will do.

Directions

  1. Chop whichever vegetables you wish to use.
  2. Heat cooking oil to high heat and quickly fry the chopped vegetables. You may need to do this in two portions, so as not to let the oil get too cold.
  3. When the vegetables are fried to your liking, add the envelope of nasi goreng spices and stir well to combine.
  4. Make a well in the center of your frying pan, add a drop or two of oil if needed, and pour the beaten eggs into this well. Allow to set for a while, then break up and mix the scrambled egg with the vegetables.
  5. Add the cooked rice, again mixing well, and allow to heat through.
  6. If you wish to eat nasi goreng (=fried rice) with meat, you can choose to leave out the eggs. Just add some cooked chicken pieces (home made or store bought) or a couple of slices of chopped up ham. We like to eat it with peanut sauce, which adds protein instead meat or eggs. Peanut sauce is just smooth or crunchy peanut butter, stirred together with cold water, soy sauce, and Sriracha. Add these to a small glass bowl, stir smooth, and eat cold or hot (microwave carefully, it burns easily) with the rice.
